28/03-Saturday Morning Coffee

Posted on March 27th, 2009 by Buts

Happy Saturday you hooligans.

The weather is turning and that can only mean one thing…………….playoff hockey, best time of the year for a hockey fan.

Owen Nolan fought Colton Orr the other, say what you want Nolan wants to win and will do anything to win, nice cheap shot at the end as well.

With one more loss Cujo becomes the goalie with the most loses in NHL history, I find that weird.

Did you guys see the Tuukka Rask flip out? Stellar! They say Rask lacks emotion, I say bullcrap he LOST IT.

RollllllllllllllllllllllllllUp the rim at Timmy’s these days, I’m killin it with 8 free coffees and 6 free donuts, I’m saving the donuts to buy a 12 pack for the office.

What the hell is a Lady GaGa.

Leave it to the Flyers to sign some goalie nobody has ever heard of, God only knows.

Leafs love living in the abyss, another miss the playoffs and just miss the lottery as usual season. The last time the Leafs were in the playoffs Roenick ended the Leafs season with his OT goal as the Flyers choked the Leafs out yet again.

Flyers have played the Leafs 7 times in the playoffs, Flyers winning 6 of the series.

I had a sales call on Disco road this week, I love it. Fire in the Disco.

Mike Richards for the Selke? I think he has a shot.

Congrats to the great Emma Butler, she scored her first basket on a full size basket ball net! She’s 5 and weighs 39lbs, that’s a big shot for a little girl.

How about those Blue Jackets, wow the Hitch has them fired up.

Are the Caps a good team or do they just have 4 really good players and 16 hanger ons?

Have a great week end hooligans.

03/21-Saturday Morning Coffee

Posted on March 21st, 2009 by Buts

I hate 3 point games, I hate them. Why is a 4-1 win regulation worth a total of 2 points but a 3-2 win in OT worth a total of 3? That is just stupid.

Some people hate OV’s celebrations, I actually don’t mind them for 78 games, the 4 games against the Flyers I’m not a fan.

OV’s Jimi Hendrix burning stick celebration was for his 50th goal, who cares it was fun so chill you bunch of old ninnies.

Two 18 year old D-men Drew Doughty and Zack Bogosian are playing over 22 minutes a night and playing great, that is amazing.

The lull between the trade deadline and playoffs seem pretty boring except for 2 or 3 teams in the race for the 8th playoff spot. Not sure what the NHL can do but it seems many teams are going through the motions right now.

What is going on with Carey Price, maybe he isn’t that good but I swear he is.

This Crosby kid sure is pretty good when he has an NHL winger or two on his line.

Is there an age when farts stop being funny? I want to get them all in before that.

Seems the trade deadline was good for some players as many are thriving on their new teams such as Guerin, Kunitz, Jokinen and Upshall to name a few.

I look at the Ducks roster and I can’t figure out how they are on the outside looking in, not sure I’d want to play them in the playoffs.

The Bruins on the other hand I would have no issue playing, there are sliding.

T.J. “couldn’t shoot the puck in the ” Oshie.  That’s not true actually the kid is going to be good. For the record I hate the name T.J.  It just bugs me.

Olli Jokinen and Jerome Iginla a match made in Mike Keenan heaven, these two are made to play on the same line.

Ray Whitney has 15 points in his last 9 games, the guy gets better with age.

Anybody notice Frodo and Billbo have come out of hiding!! Briere and Gagner are both picking it up and are finally healthy.

Well I guess it’s a dunk but how about that landing.

Have a great week end hooligans.

Here is the Downie slash and 20 game suspension, you be the judge.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbgR7gJBGfk

The Wings are usually players at the deadline but they stood pat this year, rolling the dice with the goalies but they are ready to roll.

My take on the trades this past week and a bit.

Habs get Schneider Thrashers get a 2nd and conditional 3rd.  Schneider helps the PP and can play 20+ minutes a night and Habs needed that. The Thrashers will do crap per usual with the picks. Winner………….Habs

Devils get Havelid Thrashers get Salmela. Havelid can play 20 + minutes and will be an effective top 4 D-man for the Devils. The Thrashers already have a player named Enstrom who can do the same but better then Salmela plus Lou doesn’t trade good prospects. Winner…………………Devils.

Sens get LeClaire and a 2nd Jackets get Vermette Slam dunk win for the Sens. They need a #1 goalie they get that and a 2nd for a player who is a solid 3rd liner and perhaps a 2nd liner here and there.

Good job Thrashers this blog is one minute old and you are 0 for 2.

Pens get Guerin Islanders get a 3rd, 4th or 5th. Pens win this in a landslide, they get a top 6 winger for a mid level pick. The Islanders are just stupid.

Hawks get Pahlsson Ducks get Wisniewski  The Hawks get the tough shut down center they need and the Ducks get a young potential top 4 D-man. I call this a win for the Hawks now and a win for the Ducks next year.

Coyotes get Upshall/2nd Flyers get Carcillo. Flyers get younger and tougher and some salary cap relief. The Yotes get a potentially good young player that can’t get over the hump offensively. Too early to call.

Jokinen to the Flames Lombardi and 1st to the Yotes. The Flames get the best player in the deal and a true number 1 center for Iginla. This could be scary good for the Flames. The Yotes get younger and quicker.

Cole/Williams/O’Sullivan deal. Kings and Canes you blew it. O’Sullivan and the Oilers win this deal hands down.

Rangers get Morris Coyotes get Dawes Prucha Kalinin The Yotes win this deal, they get 2 young NHL ready forwards with upside. The Ranger get Derek Morris who is an overrated player, Morris has a name but he’s not a player if that makes sense.

Flames get Leopold Avs get a 2nd some prospects. Avs got something for a UFA who would be leaving. Flames got a top 4 D-man and that wins them this deal.

Leafs trade Antropov and Moore in seperate deals for 2nd round picks. Unless these picks turn into players which is a big roll of the dice I don’t like these deals for the Leafs, better then losing both I guess.

Have a great weekend hooligans

Congratulation to Kirk Maltby on playing game 1000 in the NHL. 4 Stanley Cups and pure class on and off the ice.

In the long run I think the Pens made a massive error trading Whitney. Kunitz may be OK for a bit but he’s a 30 year old 2nd liner. Whitney can become a 55 point #1 D-man, you don’t trade those guys.

Steve Begin traded, you trade those guys.

Did you know Danny Briere leads the NHL with 50 playoff points since the lock out.

I hate blue cheese.

Can you get a low ankle sprain?

The Sabres playoff hopes are on the shoulders of Patrick Lalime, he’s the guy who dashed the Sens playoff runs year after year

If the Pens get the #8 seed and I think they will make the playoffs, but if they do I am calling it right now, the Pens will upset the Bruins in the 1st round.

I don’t care if Scottie Bowman is the new coach of the Rangers, they are crap.

That being said you will see Redden improve drastically and statistically.

Can you believe that the Sens kept Redden over Chara, that is unreal.

Welcome back Danny Briere, go do your point a game play off thing.

Who’s skinner, Ryan Miller or Marty Biron?

Must suck being an NHL tough guy, you see the playoffs are 20+ games away and you know your season is done as soon as the playoffs start.

Why is every NHL game not on HD? They need to make that happen.

Speaking of making things happen, here come the Wings just revving it up.

As far as stats go Malkin is better then both OV and Sid. But my eyes tell my differently, I finds that weird but true.

Brodeur with a Shut out first game back, too funny.

Below is a request from a friend and reader of this blog, if you have a few minutes it would be appreciated.

I am asking you to take minute of your time today to vote for Woolwich as Kraft Hockeyville 2009.  Go here to vote: www.woolwichhockeyville.ca.

Have a great week end hooligans.

Will the real Carey Price please stand up please stand up. What a mess right now, that being said I fully believe he will turn it around.

We get hot wings and Cajun wings Wednesday after hockey, I don’t like the cajun wings, I just don’t.

The Niedermayers are first cousins with Jason Strudwick.

Glen Metropolit has played on 20 different teams in 14 years he’s played professional hockey.

You know the saying “A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush” Who came up with that, I don’t want a bird in my hand.

Did you know Jerry O’Connell was the fat kid in Stand by Me. I kid you not.

Proof fat kids can get the hot chicks, O’Connell’s wife Rebecca Romijn got her start in a Walmart fashion show.

When a team pulls the goalie and scores I don’t think the defending players should be given a minus.

Did you know Chara played 3 years with the Islanders? I know you knew he was drafted there but 3 seasons, I barely remember that.

Steve Ott is on pace to get 40+ points and 150 pim’s. In other words he’s turned into Sean Avery.

Scott Hartnell’s parents are both teachers and his wife Lisa is hot.

The Kings drafted Kimmo Timonen in 1993. Timonen was traded to Nashville so the Preds wouldn’t draft Garry Galley in the 1998 supplemental draft. That’s just crazy.

After the Bruins announcer announces a Bruins goal he goes WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Only one man can go WOOOOOOOOO So stop that crap now.

Ric Flair opened a financial business In September 2007 called Ric Flair Finance. In July 2008, Ric Flair Finance filed for bankruptcy.

Is it just me or is bankruptcy a weird looking word?

Dan Quinn the former Penguin once had 94 points in a season. That is unreal, I guess playing with Mario has it’s benefits.

If Mike Green played 82 games could he get 100 points? I’m thinking maybe he could. I still think he’s going to get a major injury, his knees are always out and he’s going to get one destroyed sooner then later.

Did you know Alexandre Daigle is still playing hockey, he plays for HC Davos in the Swiss league.

Speaking of Daigle he once played on a pick up team in LA with Cuba Gooding Jr. What a mess.

Have a great week end hooligans.

Mutt and Jeff    Big and small   anyway you slice it Chara and Savard are one hell of a solid combo leading the Bruins right now.

When did Michael Ryder turn into a very good 2 way sniper, this can’t be.

Love Ovechkin and his Canada flag gimmick in the all star game, the guy gets it.

Don’t look now but here come the Pens primed for a big second half. Sid looks ready to claim his #1 spot back.

Why does popcorn at the movies taste so much better then anywhere else.

Scott Gomez gets no love, he sets his teammates up all game long and they do nothing with the gifts, brutal.

Once big time prospect Justin Pogge looks to be a bust, I’m think the Leafs wish they had the Rask/Raycroft deal as a do over.

Another season and I still have no faith in the Flyer goaltending, never seems to end.

Mono smono, Kessel is back, nothing can keep “The Blowfish” down.

Macho Man or Ricky the dragon Steamboat. I take the Macho man 8 days a week………….Can you dig it.

Sundin has been a disaster for the Canucks so far, they may as well go get Jonas Hoglund now.

Steelers vs Cards? Steelers in a landslide.

Speaking of the Steelers, did you know that they only have the logo on the right side of the helmet? Only team in the NFL to do so.

The reffing in the NHL is getting just brutal again, bad calls in every game it seems.

That being said the Flyers deserve most of the penalty’s called against them, what dumb team many nights.

Speaking of popcorn have you ever had some of that flavoured popcorn from kiosk in the mall? Damn some of that is good. Double caramel is kick ass.

Have a great week end Hooligans.

Quick update on our good friend Cam Coughlin, Cam was the young Flyer fan living in Hespeler that use to tell people he lived in Philly and wanted to be a Flyer when he grows up. Well Cam and his hockey team just won the Cambridge International Hockey Tournament this past week end. Congrats to Cam and his Hespeler Shamrock teammates.

Second Half Predictions

Take It To The Bank Predictions.

Ovechkin will take the lead and keep it in the goals department

Jason Spezza will have a big second half.

Alex Hemsky will have a big second half.

Peter Mueller will have a solid 2nd half.

Oprah already has a big 2nd half.

The All Star game is a joke and the players are dropping out left right and center which proves it even more.

Elliot is the answer to the Sens goalie issues.

Sean Avery will spout off again, he’s been out of the spotlight too long.

Don Cherry will say something very stupid

High Risk Predictions

The Bruins will falter, they will still be good just not this good.

Kris Veersteg will hit the sophomore wall.

The Black Hawks will hit the wall for that matter.

Briere has a big post season yet again.

Columbus or Phoenix will make the playoffs.

Out on a Limb Predictions

Manny Fernandez will be the Bruins starting goalie for the playoffs.

The Devils will go into a bit of a funk when Brodeur gets back.

Jiri Tlusty will keep his pants on this year.

Biron will be looking the wrong way on a wrap around.

Sam Gagner will grow hair on his feet and ask to be called Bilbo.

The Old City Outlaws (Carter, Richards, Lupul, Upshall) will lose a member by the trade deadline.

Have a stellar weekend hooligans.

Hooligans welcome back, lets’ rock.

I blog about sports mostly and sprinkle in some music and entertainment whenever possible. So I was thinking if hockey players were rock bands or rock stars who would they be.

Ovechkin-Red Hot Chili Peppers  He’s everything that hockey players typically aren’t, he’s brash and he’s the King of the NHL, when it comes to that title he’s not going to give it away

Crosby -The Beatles.  Took the NHL by storm and he’s the face of the new NHL’s hockey revolution.

Nick Lidstrom -U2.  He just keeps ticking and he never seems to be off his game, if you need a D-man he’s the one.

Bobby Luongo- The Cure.  Can’t say enough about his great play whether it’s a Saturday, Tuesday or Friday I’m in love.

Mike Richard -AC DC.  Brings it every night and electrifies you with his high voltage style of play.

Peter Forsberg- The Who.  Just when you think he’s gone he’s back to prove that he was the star of my generation.

Tim Thomas- Guns & Roses.  Tim is small and combative and started out with great numbers in the 11th month and hopes to continue his November reign.

Ryan Smyth- Foo Fighters.  A little rough around the edges but when the going gets tough in times like these he’ll rise to the top.

Zdeno Chara -Van Halen. Top dog on a couple teams and will make other players jump with fear.

Jerome Iginla -Metellica.  None stop physical presence that will seek and destroy with a full arsenal of weapons.

Marty Brodeur -The Eagles.  No matter how many players leave his band he just takes it easy at the top of the goalie standings.

Jeff Carter -RUN DMC.  The dude can flat out bring it and right now when it comes to scoring goals he’s the king of rock.

Jeremy Roenick- Pearl Jam  The hockey world is his stage and he will grab the mic any chance he gets, this Jeremy has spoken.

I’m sure you guys can come up with a few more and I’d love to hear them.

Next week I will have my 2nd half predictions, if you are in a hockey pool you won’t want to miss it.
