San Jose, CA (Sports Network) – Dany Heatley notched the ninth hat trick of his career and second this season to help the San Jose Sharks take a 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers at HP Pavilion.

Joe Thornton had four assists, with his third one giving him 600 on his career, while Ryane Clowe and Manny Malhotra each had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who had dropped three of four coming into the game. Evgeni Nabokov made 26 saves in the win.

“When you have a chance to put (me and Thornton on the same line), it opens up a lot of room,” Heatley said. “In the first period, I thought I could have had two or three. It’s just fun to move the puck and skate and create chances.”

Additionally, the Sharks continued their dominance of the Flyers, as the team has not lost to Philly since December 21, 2000, winning nine of the 11 games with two ties between the two clubs.

Heatley now has 17 goals on the season and leads the NHL in that category.

Claude Giroux had two goals and an assist, while Danny Briere scored the other for the Flyers, who had won seven of eight coming into the game. Ray Emery was charged with all six goals on 29 shots in the loss.

“Little mistakes cost you games,” said Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger. “We certainly gave them a chance to continue to keep the lead, and every time they’d get another goal, we’d get one back. We just got too far back.”

The Flyers drew first blood in the game at the 9:16 mark of the first period. Matt Carle had the puck along the right boards and powered his way to the front where he dished it over to Briere, who got just enough of a shot to get it past Nabokov for his eighth goal of the season.

However, San Jose tied the game on the power play with 4:49 to play in the first, as Malhotra’s shot from the high slot went off two Flyers and snuck past Emery.

Just 50 seconds into the second, San Jose took a 2-1 lead. Pronger fell down in his own zone with the puck and Heatley grabbed it. He slid the puck over to Thornton, who waited until he got to the right circle and flung a pass to the low left side where Heatley slammed it home.

Philly tied the game at the 11:24 mark of the second thanks to a lucky break. During a scrum in front, Malhotra tapped the puck into his own net — with Giroux getting credit for it.

However, the Sharks took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission, as Dan Boyle sent a pass from the top of the left circle to the right for Patrick Marleau, who one-timed the puck; it eventually trickled off the skate of Emery and in with just 4.9 seconds left on the clock.

Skating shorthanded, the Sharks made it a two-goal game. On a 2-on-1 break, Heatley brought the puck into the Philly end and dished it over to the right side for Thornton, who held the puck before threading a pass back to Heatley for the easy goal at the 8:41 mark.

The Flyers, though, got the goal back just 51 seconds later, as Pronger one- timed a shot from the slot that Nabokov stopped; however, Giroux was there to slam home the rebound.

Heatley, though, completed the hat trick a bit over three minutes later on the power play, as he slammed home the puck from in front of the net for a 5-3 lead.

Clowe capped the scoring in the game with 4:38 to play with his third goal of the season.
