Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – Jeff Carter scored twice and added an assist to lead the Philadelphia Flyers in a 5-3 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Chris Pronger, Dan Carcillo and Arron Asham also tallied for Philadelphia, which snapped a two-game losing streak. Ray Emery, making a second straight start following a return from abdominal surgery, recorded 25 saves for the win.

Former Flyer R.J. Umberger netted a pair of goals for the Blue Jackets, who have lost four of their last five games. Rick Nash got his 23rd of the season to account for the other Columbus score and added an assist, while Kristian Huselius picked up three helpers.

Mathieu Garon was pulled in the third period after allowing all five goals on 30 shots. Steve Mason came on to make seven saves the rest of the way.

Carter’s second goal of the game came on a heady play at 11:31 of the second period and broke a 2-2 tie. Carter swiped the puck right off the drop of an offensive zone draw to Garon’s left and beat him inside the far post.

“We had the momentum and that third goal kind of took the wind out of us,” said Columbus coach Ken Hitchcock.

That helped set the tone for Philadelphia’s win as Pronger took a Danny Briere feed from across the crest of the crease and poked in a power-play goal from the right post inside the period’s final minute for a 4-2 game.

Carcillo then made it 5-2 by snapping off a quick wrister from above the circles to beat Garon high to the glove side at 9:12 of the third.

Nash’s deflection on the power-play of an Anton Stralman point shot came in the game’s final two minutes and accounted for the final margin.

Carter got things started just 58 seconds in by splitting a pair of Blue Jacket defenders on the right-wing side and lifting a backhander past Garon.

“I thought the first period was one of the best periods we’ve put together in a while,” said Flyers coach Peter Laviolette.

Asham received a terrific backhanded centering pass from Claude Giroux in the slot to one-time his fifth of the season for a 2-0 lead 2:16 into the second.

Columbus came back with the next two — both from Umberger — to even things up at two apiece. First, Umberger batted home the rebound off a Stralman offering for a power-play marker at 4:22, then hustled to slip a loose puck past Emery just past the midway point when the goaltender failed to cover up at the left post.
