Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – Mike Richards scored a pair of short- handed goals as Philadelphia doubled up Carolina, 4-2, in preseason action from the Wachovia Spectrum.
Joffrey Lupul and Braydon Coburn also scored for the Flyers, who got a 25-save performance from Martin Biron. Simon Gagne recorded an assist in his first preseason contest.
Matt Murley and Patrick Eaves tallied for the Hurricanes. Cam Ward allowed four goals on 31 shots in the loss.
The tilt was the first of two exhibition games the Flyers will play in their old home, which is set to be torn down in 2009. The orange and black will square off against their AHL farm club, the Phantoms, in early October.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the game today. Lou Nolan gave a polished performance as he introduced the 11 captains. The four missing- Forsberg, Tocchet, Smith, and Lindros were not mentioned. Many highlights, but here are two- Luca Sbiza’s had 74 on one jersey sleeve and 47 on the other. Also- Richie’s two shorthanded goals made me think this might be an MVP season for him. Good ending to the NHL at the Spectrum.
By the way, has any player had a hat trick with all shorthanded goals?
