Washington, DC (Sports Network) – Alexander Ovechkin scored and registered two assists to lead the Washington Capitals to a 5-1 thumping of the Philadelphia Flyers in preseason action at Verizon Center.
Chris Clark and Nicklas Backstrom scored in the second period to give the Capitals a commanding 3-0 lead, while Jose Theodore saved all but one of 18 shots against for Washington.
Tomas Fleischmann and Eric Fehr chipped in third-period goals to seal the victory for the Caps.
Daniel Briere tallied Philadelphia’s only goal, and Jean-Sebastien Aubin allowed three goals on 19 shots in his start between the pipes. Martin Biron was beaten twice on 12 shots in his 20 minutes in goal.

Brutal showing last night. But the coaches decided to skate a number of youngsters rather than go with the regulars. I guess this was bound to happen though when the Caps decided to dress most of their regulars, including Alex Ovechkin.
