Palin to Peddle Pucks at Flyers’ Opener

Posted on October 9th, 2008 by The FlyerFly

Okay…first off I would normally never interject American politics into the Buzzer Blog.  This is a place for hockey, not real problems of the world.  This is where I usually go to escape all the serious issues for a while.

However, the Flyers have decided to bring it up.  Fair enough.  I understand that the Flyers marketing department wouldn’t be doing their jobs if they hadn’t found a way to tap into the publicity that Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin had created for the whole “hockey mom” genre.

But what seems to be terribly odd is that the Flyers were willing to agree to this knowing that Philadelphia is a VERY Democratic city, and that Palin with her VERY conservative viewpoint is likely to get booed rather mercilessly.  Not that I would be upset.  I am no fan of Palin’s either.

But the potential for another bashing of Philadelphia sports fans by media outlets is certainly there.  If Palin is greeted by jeers and boos, will Flyers fans be labeled as being unreasonable and unruly?  Who knows.

But even if they are, at least in this case, they would be giving the big boo-hiss for something that matters instead of Santa Claus at the Vet or Destiny’s Child at the NBA Finals.

So I say, let the boos rain down.  In my opinion, Palin and her running mate John McCain are terribly out of touch with where this country needs to be headed, and I’m just sorry that I won’t be there to let her know in person.  Luckily, there are members of this website who are going to the Opening Night game and they can be sure to voice it for me.

Flyers fans being called unreasonable and unruly? Never!

  2. The FlyerFly Says:

Well…to this point, Flyers fans haven’t gotten nearly the stigma that has been slapped on Eagles fans, or even on Sixers fans. tough and impatient, yes. but unruly? i hesitate to use that adjective.
