Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) – Rookie defenseman Alex Goligoski scored the lone shootout goal, as the Pittsburgh Penguins continued their home dominance over the Philadelphia Flyers with a 5-4 win.

After Dany Sabourin stoned Joffrey Lupul to end the fifth round, Goligoski faked the backhand before switching to the forehand and tucking the disc behind Martin Biron. Scott Hartnell looked to even the shootout, but lost the handle the game ended in Pittsburgh’s favor.

Sidney Crosby scored two goals, while Evgeni Malkin added a goal and an assist for the Penguins, who have won five games in a row.

Marc-Andre Fleury allowed four goals on 24 shots before he was replaced by Sabourin at the beginning of the third period. Sabourin stopped all 11 shots he faced.

Jeff Carter and Lupul both had a goal for Philadelphia, which has lost five straight and 10 of its last 11 trips Mellon Arena. Biron gave up four goals on 31 shots. Simon Gagne registered a pair of short-handed tallies.

Signed as a free agent over the summer, Matt Cooke notched his first goal as a Penguin and gave the home club a 1-0 lead 7:06 into the contest, firing a shot from the left circle over Biron’s shoulder.

Malkin took a drop pass from Ruslan Fedotenko in the slot and, with Flyers defenseman Matt Carle draped on him, used the backhand to flip the puck past the right arm of Biron, making it 2-0 at the 1:11 mark of the middle stanza.

Crosby added a power-play marker 2:40 later, but the Flyers exploded for four unanswered goals and carried a one-goal edge into the third period.

Carter put Philadelphia on the board, redirecting Hartnell’s bid from the right circle behind Fleury at 7:46.

Led by their tenacious penalty-killing unit, the Flyers evened the score. Gagne outraced a pair of Penguins for a loose puck in the neutral zone, skated in and beat Fleury on a forehand-to-backhand deke just 66 seconds after Carter had lit the lamp.

With rookie defenseman Luca Sbisa serving a hooking minor for Philadelphia, Andrew Alberts sent an outlet pass to Richards and he skated into the zone before sliding a cross-ice feed to Gagne, who pulled up in the right circle and ripped a slap shot over Fleury’s glove with 6:04 remaining.

Lupul’s power-play goal in the dying seconds capped the burst, but Crosby tied the game at 4-4 with 2:33 remaining in regulation, collecting a puck between the circles and letting loose a wrister that beat Biron on the stick side.
Game Notes

Malkin leads the NHL in assists (20) and is riding a career-high 12-game point streak (five goals, 18 assists)…Satan picked up his 700th career point with an assist on Crosby’s second-period goal…The Flyers have scored a league- high eight short-handed goals this season…Philadelphia center Danny Briere sat out with a groin strain.
