Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – Mike Knuble scored two goals, including the game-winner with 5:08 remaining in the third period, and the Philadelphia Flyers edged the Dallas Stars, 4-3, at the Wachovia Center.

Jeff Carter and Scottie Upshall also scored for the Flyers, who pushed their winning streak to a season-high five games. Simon Gagne collected two assists to extend his point streak to eight games (three goals and 10 assists), while Martin Biron made 22 saves.

Mike Modano had two goals for Dallas, which has dropped three straight and six of its last seven games. Marty Turco stopped 21-of-25 shots for the Stars, who entered Monday having allowed 70 goals, the most in the Western Conference.

With the clubs locked a in a 3-3 duel, Flyers captain Mike Richards stripped Doug Janik at the Dallas blueline and advanced down the right wing before pulling up at the side of the goal. He spotted Knuble coming late down the middle and the veteran one-timed the puck past Turco.

Philadelphia defenseman Braydon Coburn went off for hooking with 1:04 to go in regulation. Dallas pulled the goaltender to create a 6-on-4 advantage, but couldn’t net the equalizer.

Upshall opened the scoring on a nifty feed from Joffrey Lupul. Lupul skated down along the right boards before sending a pass through the crease to an uncovered Upshall in front of the net and he tucked it home 3:17 into the contest.

Landon Wilson’s first goal in nearly five years tied the game with 8:27 remaining in the opening period. Darryl Sydor’s blast from the right point did not reach its intended target. Wilson then gathered the puck in the right circle and fired a shot over Biron, who had gone into the butterfly prematurely.

Knuble put the Flyers up 2-1 with four minutes to go in the frame, then Modano evened the score at the 2:30 mark of the middle stanza, hammering a rebound past a sliding Biron.

Carter and his patented wrist shot restored the lead for Philadelphia with 5:38 remaining in the second. Scott Hartnell dug the puck out from behind the net to the sizzling center and he placed it in the far corner for his 15th tally of the season, tying Buffalo’s Tomas Vanek for the most in the league.

Modano then netted the tying marker with 2:34 to go in the second.

Game Notes

Carter has six goals in the last six games…Knuble (10) is the third Flyer to reach double-digits in goals, joining Carter (15) and Gagne (11)…Dallas announced before the game that forward Steve Ott will miss at least a month with a broken right hand. The club recalled forward Chris Conner from Peoria of the American Hockey League to fill the roster spot…Originally taken 19th overall by Toronto in the 1993 draft, Wilson spent the past three seasons playing in Switzerland and last scored in the NHL on March 16, 2004 as a member of the Penguins.
