Game Wrapup

Minnesota Wild 2, Philadelphia Flyers 1

St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Anton Khudobin's first career start was a successful one, as the Russian stopped 38-of-39 shots to lead Minnesota over Philadelphia, 2-1, at Xcel Energy Center.

The 23-year-old earned his second pro victory, just two days after winning his first NHL game in relief of injured goaltender Josh Harding by stopping nine shots against Edmonton.

Owen Nolan and Cal Clutterbuck tallied for the Wild, who improved to 8-0-1 in their last nine home contests.

Daniel Carcillo notched the lone score for the Flyers, who dropped two in a row to end their three-game road trip.

Starting in place of Ray Emery who was sidelined with a hip injury, Michael Leighton took the loss despite making 28 saves.

Clutterbuck capitalized off a Flyers turnover for a 1-0 Wild edge with 4:23 left in the first, but Carcillo batted a rebound out of the air to tie the score 16 seconds later.

After misfiring on a power play, Nolan gave Minnesota back the lead when he pushed the rebound of an Eric Belanger shot off Leighton's glove and in with 8:12 to play in the second.

The Flyers failed to score on a 3-on-1 shorthanded rush almost nine minutes into the third period, when Mike Richards elected to shoot and hit Khudobin's breadbasket. Philadelphia then came up empty on an advantage after the midway point of the period.

Leighton went to the bench for an extra skater with 1:48 remaining, and despite several chances in close, Khudobin and the Wild held on for the win.

Broad and Pattison, the Orange and Black, The Broad Street Bullies, The Sign Man, and that Dancing Guy. I believe 35 games can never, and will never be beaten. I believe that only The Lord saves more than Bernie, but I remember The Hammer, The Chief, The Rat, Flocky Hockey, The LCB Line, Foppa, Brindy and Johnny Vermont. I believe in the number 31 and I remember game 6 and J.J. Daigneault. I believe in the phrase "Good night, good hockey" and giving players a case of Tasty Cakes when they score goals. I remember the Philadelphia Flu, and I believe in the power of the most intimidating crowd in all of sports. I believe in winning together today, and walking together forever. I know we're back, we're back there again, back with a vengeance. So lets get started.
