Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Peter Mueller's third-period goal proved to be the difference, as the Phoenix Coyotes knocked off the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, at the Wachovia Center.
Keith Yandle and Fredrik Sjostrom scored for Phoenix, which has won three straight and four of five overall. Ilya Bryzgalov made 26 saves to earn the victory.
Scott Hartnell and Mike Richards tallied for the Flyers, who have dropped a season-high four games in a row. Martin Biron allowed three goals on 42 shots in defeat.
Trailing 2-0, the Coyotes mounted a comeback in the final three minutes of the middle stanza.
Niko Kapanen's shot caromed off the end boards right to Yandle at the left side of the goal and he buried the puck behind Biron with 2:53 left. It was Yandle's first career NHL goal.
Then, while shorthanded, Shane Doan was skating down the right wing and passed the puck to Sjostrom, charging down the opposite side. Sjostrom accepted the feed and wristed the puck past Biron to knot the contest at two with 22 seconds remaining.
Mueller gave the Coyotes their first lead of the game 6:25 into the third. Zbynek Michalek shot the puck from the left point and Biron made the save. Mueller, standing in the slot, backhanded the rebound. Biron stopped Mueller's first offering, but the rookie continued to battle, as he picked up the loose puck, spun around and slid the disc past the left pad of Biron.
In the final minute of regulation, the Flyers pulled Biron but could not solve Bryzgalov.
The Flyers utilized the power play to grab a 1-0 lead with 7:57 remaining in the first. R.J. Umberger blazed down the right wing, skated around Phoenix defenseman Nick Boynton and backhanded the puck on net. Hartnell, driving hard to the cage, tipped it in.
Richards lit the lamp at the 7:21 mark of the second to put the Flyers ahead 2-0. Phoenix defenseman Ed Jovanovski tried to carry the puck out of the defensive zone, but was stripped at the blueline by Richards. Richards broke in alone on Bryzgalov and beat the goaltender with a forehand-to-backhand move.
