Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Stephen Valiquette posted 20 saves for his first career shutout as the New York Rangers pounded the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-0, at the Wachovia Center.
Chris Drury had a goal and an assist while Brendan Shanahan also scored for the Rangers, who have won three of their last four games.
Antero Niittymaki started in net but was pulled after allowing four goals on 12 shots. Martin Biron finished the game between the pipes and stopped all 15 shots he faced for the Flyers, who had won six of seven coming into the game.
The Rangers grabbed a 1-0 lead 8:18 into the contest. Drury picked up a turnover in the neutral zone and got the puck to Nigel Dawes, who skated into the Flyers end down the left side, faked a shot to get Niittymaki out of position and slid the disc into the wide-open net.
New York made it a 2-0 game with 2:04 left in the first as Dan Girardi blasted a shot from the right circle that Niittymaki stopped, but Petr Prucha knocked the rebound between the pads of the goaltender.
Valiquette stopped nine shots in the first period.
New York went up by three just 23 seconds into the second period as Drury blasted a slap shot from the high slot through a screen for his 13th goal of the season.
The Rangers continued to pour it on and made it 4-0 just 1:18 later. On a 2- on-1 break, Shanahan and Brandon Dubinsky worked a give-and-go and Shanahan's one-timer from the left circle beat Niittymaki, who was replaced in net by Biron after the goal.
Valiquette, who only faced two shots in the second period, stopped nine shots in the final frame to complete the shutout.
